Hello Partners:
It's just over a week since I got back, and I think I'm just about recovered from a terrific three-week venture in Grenada, Trinidad, and Tobago. Thanks to all of you who gave so sacrificially of your best to make the Grenada Initiative an outstanding success. Thanks especially to Gus Panchoo for introducing us to his interesting homeland and for his commitment to the cause that HANDS espouses. I think all of us would concur when I say that his dedicated efforts were critical in putting all the components of the project together and successfully seeing the whole exercise through. We owe him a special debt of gratitude for facilitating the remarkable experience.
We think also of the special leadership roles of Maud Punch, of Honey, of the drivers who were always there for us and whose skill in navigating the winding roads made us feel safe (sometimes), of the pastors who accommodated us in their churches, and of many other partners who joined with us in what I'm convinced was a God-directed mission. Thanks, thanks, thanks - to one and all.
Were there glitches? Of course, and it is quite unrealistic to expect otherwise. Even when we do far less complex projects, right here in our own backyard and churches, we routinely have to deal with glitches and conflicts. What about when a team consists of diverse disciplines with different expectations and experiences, unpaid volunteers covering long distances by land, sea and air, working across different cultures, and having limited time to get to know each other and to get much done? Nothing is perfect, but we are constantly learning and growing from our experiences. Actually, the team was most resilient in adapting to whatever came our way. Also a number of special things took place that we should not forget. When we meet to review and plan ahead we will take special note of these. Plan to provide your reactions and evaluations, and Daphne would be able to give us some figures as to how many were impacted at clinics and meetings.
Please join me in thanking God for his indispensable guidance. And again, thanks to one and all for a job well done under his providence.
Cordially yours,
Hedrick Edwards
